Humboldt House | Story
Claire graduated from Lake Forest College with a degree in studio art and began working in art galleries. After moving to Humboldt Park she wanted to use her love of art, design and vintage pieces to create a community goods centered feminist shop. Let’s just say, she nailed it. Obsessed.
Humboldt House | Why they Matter
First of all, Humboldt Park needed a shop like this. It opened 2 months before I left Chicago and moved to California, so I missed out on having it in my neighborhood of 5 years, but I am so glad it is there for everyone else to enjoy.
It is a queer owned shop that literally has everything I could ever want. The selection of planters is a plant lovers dream come true. There is an endless supply of perfect and cute gifts like candles, jewelry, blankets, and cards to grab and take to your next party as a hostess gift. Speaking of which there must be a better/updated term for hostess these days? Host is technically gender neutral but mostly skews male. Let’s come up with a better term.
One of my favorite things about Humboldt House is that they are community focused but that hasn’t stopped them from building an awesome digital experience so people like me can easily shop support them from 2500 miles away.
